Battery Manufacture Installation Completed, Creating Integrated Battery Ecosystem in Indonesia

15 January 2026

Karawang, (15/01/2026) – BPI Danantara, shareholder of MIND ID or Mining Industry Indonesia, the Holding State-Owned Enterprise for the Mining Industry, is consistently controlling the formation of the integrated electrical vehicle battery ecosystem in Indonesia.

This step constitutes the presence of the country in realizing downstream strategic investments and long term industrialization capable of creating sustainable added value, as contained in the President’s Asta Cita (Eight Goals of the Core Policy Agenda).

MIND ID, through PT Industri Baterei Indonesia (PT IBI), has cooperated with the Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited, Brunp, Lygend (CBL) to form a joint venture, PT Contemporary Amperex Technology Indonesia Battery (CATIB), to become the spearhead in developing the Integrated Battery Ecosystem.
CATIB is currently in the process of building the production facilities of  Battery Cells Production, Module & Pack, planned to have an initial capacity of 6.9 GWh in the first phase and expanded until reaching a total capacity of 15 GWh in the second phase.

The project, constructed at Artha Industrial Hills (AIH) area, Karawang Regency, with a total land area of 43 Ha, consists of two main facilities. The first, Module & Pack (MP) Plant, the Groundbreaking Ceremony of which was attended by President Prabowo Subianto in June 2025, and the construction of which has been completed, and Battery Manufacture Equipment installation in January 2026. This is the main facility, in the form of a series of machines working automatically to assemble batteries into ready to use products for the electric vehicle industry.

The construction of both Cell Plants is being continued. These are facilities to produce the battery cell basic units, then to be ready for installation to become battery modules and package for electric vehicles and other energy applications.

The Production of Battery Cells, Module & Pack in Karawang is targetted to begin commercial operations at the end of 2026, and capable of becoming the pillar for Indonesia to raise the added value from the wealth of mineral resources, until the upgrade of the Domestic Component Level in each electrical vehicle production in Indonesia.

In the First Incoming Equipment to Cell Ceremony, Thursday (15/1/2026), Danantara Indonesia Managing Director Technology Advancement, Dwi Susanto, said that the country is present to boost the formation of technology based strategic industries which are motors for the growth of the national economy.

“Through this strategic initiative, Indonesia not only strengthens its national battery manufacturing capacity, but also build the mastery of technology, raise the capability of human resources, as well as integrating the upstream and downstream industry system of electric vehicles. In that way, paving the way for the creation of greater and sustainable economic added value for Indonesia” he said.

Also held during the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between MIND ID, PT IBI and  Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) on the research and development cooperation of products related to batteries, renewable energy, and electrical mobility to strengthen Indonesia position in the battery and renewable energy industry, specifically to prepare the commercial launch of all battery value chains integrated from upstream to downstream in Indonesia by the year 2028.

MIND ID President Director, Maroef Sjamsoeddin, conveyed that the current strategic collaboration has become a bridge for MIND ID in implementing its function as the downstream industry driver.

The MIND ID Group continues to optimize the wealth of mineral and coal natural resources to become the motor for future civilization development.

“We will continue to collaborate with various parties in developing the integrated battery ecosystem development, in order to provide better benefits for the country and people,” he said.

In line with the above, PT IBI President Director, Aditya Farhan Arif, stressed that the commitment of PT IBI in leading the development of the national battery industry is aimed at integrated growth and global competitiveness as well as contributing to the development of national expertise in the field of advanced material for energy.

“PT IBI is committed to ensure that the development of the national battery ecosystem is consistent, from the planning to implementation phase. The significant advancement of the CATIB project reflects the preparedness of infrastructure, technology as well as strategic collaboration, built to support the formation of competitive and sustainable battery industry. The signing of the MoU reflects the commitment that the presence of the national battery industry is able to contribute in raising Indonesia’s expertise in the field of advanced material for energy, specifically battery technology,” added PT IBI President Director.
