No Longer About Mineral Reserve, Mining Excellence Now Strengthened By Artificial Intelligence

JAKARTA - MIND ID or Mining Industry Indonesia, the Holding State-Owned Enterprise for the Mining Industry, is accelerating the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to raise occupational safety, operational efficiency, and reliability of the mining industry.

AI is used in various phases of the mining value chain, from exploration, mining operations, mineral processing, to energy management.

For MIND ID, AI is not only a technology innovation, but an instrument to support decision making which is faster, more accurate, and based on data.

MIND ID Vice President Director, Dany Amrun Ichdan, said that the future of the mining industry is not only determined by the size of the mineral reserve it owns but also by the ability of the company to utilize technology and data to raise operational performance.

“The value of AI is not on the model. The value is on a more secure decision, more dependable asset, the discovery of better resource, and lower operational impact,” said Dany at the Kadin Energy Insight Forum, Wednesday (9/9/2026).

Currently, the MIND ID Group is utilizing AI to strengthen occupational safety aspect through the AI-enabled fatigue management system, able to provide early warning on fatigue and microsleep indications of operators. The technology assists to reduce occupational safety risks, while at the same time, raise operational safety in the field.

On the operational side, MIND ID Group develops AI vision technology to monitor the condition of conveyors and detect the potential of disturbances much earlier, from belt damage, inappropriate size material, to contamination which can disturb the production process.

The company also develops machine learning technology to assist in optimalization of smelter operations, including the management of FeNi Rotary Kiln, in order to stabilize operations and efficiency of the mineral processing.

AI is also utilized to show the positive results in a number of MIND ID Group Members. At PT Bukit Asam (PTBA) the integration of the digital system which connects real-time operational data helps to raise the efficiency of the working process and supports the operational productivity of the company.

Aside from operational, AI is also used to hasten exploration data analysis through AI-enabled geologging. This technology helps to raise the quality of drilling data, hasten the analysis of rock core, as well as support more precise investment decision making.

MIND ID is also in the midst of developing energy and emission intelligence system connecting data of asset reliability, process efficiency, fuel consumption, and emission in one integrated system. It is hoped that such approach can assist the company to raise its energy efficiency, while at the same time, support sustainability target.

According to Dany, the digital transformation executed by MIND ID signals a change in the paradigm of the national mining industry. If the superiority of industry is previously determined more on the ownership of natural resources, in future, superiority will be more determined by the ability to utilize data, technology and artificial intelligence.
