MIND ID Group Decarbonization, Support for Healthy Nature

MIND ID or Mining Industry Indonesia, the Holding State-Owned Enterprise for the Mining Industry, expressed its strong commitment in supporting national decarbonization efforts. Various greenhouse gas emission reduction efforts in all operational activities are continuously implemented as real contribution for a healthier nature for the Motherland.

MIND ID President Director, Maroef Sjamsoeddin, conveyed that the company and all members of the MIND ID Group have consistently raised the management of mineral resources and downstreaming efforts by putting forth sustainability.

The expansion of operational performance is always in line with decrabonization steps implemented in all lines. The company hopes that the strategy of continuously managing the impact towards the environment can produce maximum benefits.

“For MIND ID, sustainability is not only a mere supplement, but is a tangible form of the spirit of Mining for Indonesia and the World. This commitment is realized in the actual efforts to reduce emission and at the same time, maintain environmental balance,” he said at the MINDialogue 2025.

Maroef explained that the MIND ID Group is targetting greenhouse gas emission reduction of about 21.4 percent against business as usual screnario or equal to 6.6 million tons of CO2e in 2030.

To achieve the target, four main scenarios have been compiled and consistently implemented in Holding Members, namely, low carbon fuel conversion, operational efficiency, increased use of renewable energy and utilization of renewable energy certificate.

Several concrete steps which have been realized in the low carbon fuel conversion is the use of B35 in the mining equipment of PT Aneka Tambang Tbk, which has managed to reduce emission by about 13 thousand tons of CO2E in 2024.

Subsequently, operational efficiency conducted by PT Bukit Asam Tbk through the use of the electric-powered bucket wheel excavator at the Tanjung Enim coal handling facility which reduces emission by about 5,200 tons of CO2e.

Support for clean energy is also strengthened. More than 99 percent of energy used by PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (INALUM) is currently sourced from renewable energy of the  Asahan Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA).

PT Timah Industri has also operated the 300 kilowatt peak solar power plant which reduces emission by about 300 tons of CO2e per year.

MIND ID continues to examine the utilization of carbon offset, carbon trading, and the use of Renewable Energy Certificate as part of the long term initiative in its decarbonization strategy.

Maroef asserts that MIND ID is endeavouring to become one of the decarbonization acceleration motor in the national clean energy transformation.

“We are certain that there are still many areas for MIND ID to provide a bigger contribution. Through decarbonization, MIND ID wants to give actual contribution to the achievement of the national climate target and respond to global expectations towards Indonesia green mineral,” he concluded.
