MIND ID Group’s ANTAM operates Haltim Ferronickel Plant to support downstreaming of the Mining Industry

Jakarta, 11 July 2023 – PT Aneka Tambang Tbk., (ANTAM), member of MIND ID or Mining Industry Indonesia, the Holding State-Owned Enterprise for the Mining Industry, begins the initial phase of operating the Haltim Ferronickel Plant in North Maluku, on Friday, 7 July 2023.  The initial phase of the Haltim Ferronickel Plant was marked with the burner-on or the warming process of the furnace before the flow of electric current. 

After completion of the furnace process, the Haltim Ferronickel Plant will switch on the furnace, at which time the nickel smelting and chromium metal factory will be officially operating.

MIND ID Corporate Secretary Heri Yusuf said that the initial phase of PT ANTAM Ferronickel Plant’s operations is part of MIND ID’s commitment to support the downstreaming of mining commodities.  The downstreaming program, he said, aims to provide multiple added values of mining commodities.

“MIND ID continues to be committed to implement the mandate of the government to become a world class company through the control and use of mineral and coal reserves owned by Indonesia,” said Heri Yusuf, Tuesday (11/7/2023).

Heri Yusuf said that as a mining holding company in the country, MIND ID continues to be committed in implementing the downstreaming program through the addition of smelters to process raw material commodities to become half-finished or finished products.

“It is the hope that the downstreaming process will be able to raise the country’s income through added value of mining product processing, one of which is through the operations of the Haltim Ferronickel Plant owned by a member of the MIND ID Group,” he said.

Meanwhile, PT ANTAM Director of Business Development I Dewa Wirantaya, said that the operations of the Haltim Ferronickel Plant is part of the commitment of PT ANTAM, member of the MIND ID Group, to focus on the completion of the company’s strategic project in 2023.

“At this time, the Haltim Ferronickel Plant enters the initial phase of the commissioning series signified by the burner-on. The Haltim Ferronickel Plant Development Project (P3FH) constitutes one of the manifestations of the mineral downstreaming program undertaken by ANTAM, in support of mineral industry strengthening in Indonesia,” said I Dewa Wirantaya.

I Dewa Wirantaya hopes that the entire commissioning series of the ferronickel plant will be running smoothly in order to provide benefits for the company, nation and country in the near future.

The Haltim Ferronickel Plant is located in East Halmahera, North Maluku. The steel manufacturing plant has a capacity of 13,500 tons of nickel in the ferronickel (TNi). In future, he said, the Halim Ferronickel Plant will support the production of ferronickel of the Kolaka Ferronickel Plant in Southeast Sulawesi with a capacity of 27,000 TNi.

The combined capacity of the two nickel smelters, MIND ID Group’s ANTAM Tbk. will have an installed ferronickel production capacity portfolio of 40,500 TNi.
