MIND ID Group Receives 6 Gold PROPER Awards from KLHK

Jakarta, 22 December 2023 – MIND ID or Mining Industry Indonesia, the Holding State-Owned Enterprise for the Mining Industry, receives six gold awards in the PROPER 2023 or Corporate Performance Rating Program of the Ministry of the Environment and Forestry (KLHK).

 The six Gold PROPER awards to the MIND ID Group were given to PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (ANTAM) through its Precious Metal Management and Refining Business Unit (UBPP); Pongkor Gold Mining Business Unit (UBPE); PT Timah Tbk, through TB Batu Besi; PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) through its Tarahan Port Unit and Tanjung Enim Mining Unit; and PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium or Inalum through its Hydroelectric Unit.

The Gold PROPER is given directly by Indonesian Vice President, Ma’ruf Amin, at the PROPER 2023 Award Ceremony, held at Bidakara Hotel Jakarta, Jalan Gatot Subroto, South Jakarta, on Wednesday, 20 December 2023.

Receiving the six Gold PROPER indicates the success of the MIND ID Group in making a reality Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG). “We are certain that PROPER is a measurement or indicator of the level of maturity of ESG. This is contained in PROPER, as PROPER is identical to ESG,” said MIND ID President Director, Hendi Prio Santoso.

Hendi said that it is very important for the MIND ID Group to have a measurement of its achievement as a sustainable mining company. One such measurement, he added, is made through the KLHK PROPER evaluation.

“Therefore, it is very important for us, also for mining companies throughout the world, that we have a clear benchmark, clear reference on our success in conducting all pillars of sustainability needed,” he went on to say.

Ma’ruf Amin said that the Corporate Performance Rating program in KLHK PROPER is made as a platform for companies to take part in sustainable development, specifically in the prevention of environmental damage and pollution due to industrial activities.

 “It is rightful that PROPER becomes a compass that can drive sustainable business practice with the application of green economic principles, even drive achievements beyond industrial compliance of environmental regulations,” said Ma’ruf.

He added that PROPER 2023 is able to drive budget efficiency in environmental management of up to Rp158 trillion or about 23 percent lower than the previous year. Moreover, said Ma’ruf, the people’s empowerment fund given by the company reached Rp1.56 trillion.

“I also hope that the awarding of PROPER will be able to change the paradigm that the social responsibility programs of companies do not only constitute as giving aid but also an activity that is oriented in public empowerment and independence,” he said.

The awards show higher acceptance of MIND ID Group’s Gold PROPER compared to 2022, at which time the MIND ID Group only received four Gold PROPER, to PT Timah Tbk, through the Muntok Mettalurgic Unit and Kepri Operations and Kundur Mettalurgic Unit in Riau; PTBA (PT Bukit Asam) through the Tarahan Port Unit; and PT Inalum through its Smelter Plant.

“We feel that the PROPER Gold award is like a bonus, if we get it, fine, if not it can be a means of future improvements. PROPER is like an important input for us and at what level the ranks that we counsel, and where we should make improvements,” said Hendi.

Aside from receiving six Gold PROPER, the MIND ID Group was also awarded 12 Green PROPER, as follows: PT Indonesia Chemical Alumina, TB Paku (PT Timah), TB Pemali (PT Timah), Muntok Mettalurgic Unit (PT Timah), Kundur Production Unit (PT Timah), North Maluku Nickel UBP (ANTAM), Tayan Bauxite UBP (ANTAM), PT Bukit Pembangkit Innovative, PT Gag Nikel, PT Smelting, PT Inalum, and Kertapati Port Unit (PTBA).
