Inalum Posted 243 Thousand Tons of Aluminium Production in 2021

Kuala Tanjung, 19 Januari 2021 – PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (Persero) (INALUM Operating), member of MIND ID State-Enterprise Holding for the Mining Industry, posted aluminium production of 243 thousand tons with sales of 218 thousand tons.  The aluminium commodity with product diversification of Ingots, Alloys and Billets, is one of the strategic inventories of the MIND ID Group as well as INALUM Operating.

MIND ID Director of Operations and Portfolio, Danny Praditya, said that “Throughout 2021, in the midst of the second year of the pandemic, the Company is consistent in optimizing its aluminium smelting plant operations by maintaining the sustainability of the entire business chain.  From maintain raw material supply chain to the performance of the hydropower plant (PLTA) as its main energy source.  The 2021 performance is evident that INALUM Operating succeeded in going through two years of the pandemic and maintain its contribution to all stakeholders and the people.”

The positive performance of INALUM Operating is supported by the optimizing of the aluminium smelting plant’s three main facilities, namely the Carbon Plant, Reduction Plant and Casting Plant. In 2021, the average furnace operations came to 458 units from a total of 510 units or 90% of the installed capacity at the Reduction Plant.

Aside from the smelting plant, the PLTA is the key indicator in supporting operational performance.  In 2021, INALUM Operating’s PLTA produced a total electrical power of 4.041.774 MWh with utilized capacity of 4.027.118 MWh. INALUM Operating also posted an increase of electrical power surplus distributed to PT PLN (Persero) State Electricity company of 41.447 MWh or 10% over the previous year.  The use of new and renewable energy in the aluminium production process has made INALUM Operating the only smelting plant producing low emission throughout the MIND ID Group.

INALUM Operating continues its commitment to raise the added value of products through its initiative of developing the national aluminium industry cluster.  Through its subsidiary, PT Indonesia Aluminium Alloy (IAA), the Company will produce, in stages, secondary billets at 50,000 tons per year capacity, and in future, various extrusion aluminium products as derivatives.

The initiative to raise the added value of the aluminium processing is strategic in developing the aluminium industry cluster in Indonesia and fulfilling national aluminium needs.

Throughout 2021, the Company continued to implement Covid-19 health protocol policies. This was aimed at protecting the health and safety of employees, thereby supporting optimal aluminium production levels. The achievement of positive performance enabled the Company to make a contribution to the country and people.

The Mining Industry Holding was officially formed on 27 November 2017, with PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (Persero) as the holding company with majority shares in four largest mining companies in Indonesia, PT Aneka Tambang Tbk, PT Bukit Asam Tbk, PT Timah Tbk and PT Freeport Indonesia.

On 17 August 2019, the Mining Industry Holding was transformed into MIND ID (Mining Industry Indonesia) to differentiate the functions of INALUM as Holding and as Operational company.
