MIND ID Group Supports the Progress of Sports in Mining Operational Areas

Jakarta, 29 February 2024 – ‘Mens sana in corpore sano’ which means a healthy mind in a healthy body, shows the importance of sports. Sports is one of the support of the physical as well as spiritual health of people.

However, sports activities would have to be supported by reasonable facilities such as a sports field or sports arena. The construction of this sports facility becomes one of the programs executed by MIND ID or Mining Industry Indonesia, the Holding State-Owned Enterprise for the Mining Industry.

“Through its social and environmental responsibility (TJSL) program, the MIND ID Group is committed to providing facilities and infrastructure for public sports activities in mining circles,” said MIND ID Corporate Secretary, Heri Yusuf.

One of the TJSL programs conducted by MIND ID Group Member, PT Timah Tbk, is to assist the provision of sports facilities and infrastructure for the public in the surrounding areas of the company’s operations.

In 2023, PT Timah Tbk supports the construction of volley ball sports facilities at Air Bulin Village, West Bangka Regency. The MIND ID Group Member also provided aid directly to the Volley Ball group at Tanjung Niur Village, Tempilang District, West Bangka Regency.

PT Timah Tbk also took part in supporting the Beli Laut Football Open Tournament in 2023. The tournament is one of the annual football competitions in which several villages in Tempilang take part.

Assistance to advance sports is not only limited to raising the health of the people but also one of the ways to polish the talents of potential athletes at the village level.

Another interesting story comes from a member of MIND ID Group, PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), who also took part in building sports facilities for golf, tennis, badminton, futsal (similar to football), swimming pool, and other sports facilities.

“The facilities are for employees and their families as well as the public living in the areas surrounding the operations of the company,” said Heri.

One of the prominent sports buildings is the Bukit Asam Bowling Alley, inaugurated in 2010. The orange building is one of the sports facilities most visited by bowling enthusiasts in Muara Enim Regency, South Sumatera.

Another MIND ID Group member, PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI), established the Papua Football Academy (PFA) in Timika, in 2022. PFA was formed to represent PTFI’s concern to advance football in Papua Land.

It is hoped that PFA can produce young talents in football. PFA has its headquarters at the Mimika Sport Complex, Timika – a sports facility built by PTFI.

“MIND ID hopes that PFA can become an organization for the development of football in Papua, producing a successor of ‘Boaz Solossa’, one of the living football legends of Papua,” he said.

To date, PFA has two groups of students ranging in age from U-14 and U-13. Both groups have the support of academic and non-academic schools to support their formal and character education. 

PFA pays due attention to the nutritional intake of students. This is very much needed to produce football athletes of international standard. “There is one part that is forgotten in the last three decades in Papua, namely mental and cultural development. One of these is through sports. PFA is present to implement the task,” said PTFI Director, Claus Wamafma.
