Klawas Waterpark, Consistent Evidence of MIND ID’s Post Mining Improvements
Jakarta, 14 April 2025 – MIND ID or Mining Industry Indonesia, the Holding State-Owned Enterprise for the Mining Industry, is consistent in implementing its post-mining improvement program to create environmental and social quality in the areas surrounding its operational sites.
Up to 2024, the MIND ID Group, consisting of PT Aneka Tambang Tbk, PT Bukit Asam Tbk, PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium, PT Freeport Indonesia, PT Timah Tbk, and PT Vale Indonesia Tbk have undertaken total mining reclamation of more than 7,200 ha.
Six million trees have been planted, which has assisted in absorbing carbon emissions in each operational and managed areas of the MIND ID Group.
The benefits of some of the reclamation areas have been optimized for use as areas for public facilities such as nurseries, tourist accommodation areas, to public recreational gardens, and historical education for the young generation.
At the official opening of the Klawas Waterpart Phase II development owned by Bukit Asam, Friday (11/4/2025), MIND ID President Director Maroef Sjamsoeddin said that environmental improvement of post mining operations is a responsibility of all mining industry players in Indonesia.
As the proactive state extension in support of President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita, (eight main policy goals), the MIND ID Group is consistent in driving post-mining environmental improvements together with a series of innovative programs.
The program presented provides value in terms of culture, education and public welfare, thereby enabling an environment that is worthy for future generation.
“We are aware that we could not be mining forever. There will be a time when this mining area is given back to be cared for by the people. That is why we would like to leave behind a civilized, educational, cultural, welfare, and environmental heritage for the people,” he stressed.
Klawas Waterpark was built on former coal stockpile land of 3,200 square meters. This waterpark has become a leading tourist attraction for the people of Tanjung Enim and surroundings.
Since it opened in 2023, the waterpark has attracted extraordinary interest. Throughout 2024, there has been more than 58 thousand visitors and has become a center of job creation and business opportunities for Micro and Small Enterprises.
Klawas Waterpark also has a complete public facility ecosystem owned by Bukit Asam, besides the Coal Museum, Sriwijaya Garden, Tanjung Enim Mini Zoo & Jogging Track, Saringan Plaza, Botanical Garden, and Berangau Park.
Maroef stressed that the programs implemented always open new job opportunities for the people.
These are not only jobs directly related to the operations of the post mining improvement program, but also business opportunities due to the increase in public activities around the public areas managed by the MIND ID Group.
“Of course, we undertake all efforts to improve the benefits. And we hope to be able to provide the impact which can really be felt by the people,” he concluded.
