MIND ID Group Assists in Cipinang River Conservation in its Commitment to Protect the Environment

MIND ID or Mining Industry Indonesia, the Holding State-Owned Enterprise for the Mining Industry, through its members PT Vale Indonesia Tbk and PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (ANTAM), has been appointed by the Ministry of the Environment/Environmental Management Agency (KLH/BPLH) as Cipinang River Area Administrator in East Jakarta. This appointment was made as part of the government’s efforts to improve the quality of national rivers.

As the Cipinang River Area Administrator, MIND ID through ANTAM and Vale Indonesia, will take an active role in activities such as waste cleaning, vegetation planting, education and socialization to the communities, environmental supervision, as well as regular reporting of all river community activities.

Minister of the Environment/BPLH, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, stressed that the public and business world have a strategic role to maintain river ecosystem sustainability, as stated in Article 160 of Government Regulations Number 22 of 2021.

“I invite all communities to carry out the clean Cipinang River movement from upstream to downstream. Let us bring this spirit to other rivers in Indonesia, from Ciliwung to Mahakam,”said Hanif Faisol.

MIND ID Corporate Secretary, Pria Utama, welcomes the trust given to MIND ID and stressed the commitment of the company in supporting sustainable environmental management.

“For MIND ID, the river is not only a flow of water, but a source of livelihood and energy supporting public and mining industry activities,” Pria explained.

This appointment is also a momentum for MIND ID to expand the implementation of various environmental conservation programs which have been successfully implemented in operational areas. 

Since 2020, MIND ID and Holding members have rehabilitated more than 37,000 hectares of river basin areas (DAS – daerah aliran sungai) and 2,740 water retention areas (DTA – daerah tangkapan air) in various provinces in Indonesia.

An example is the rehabilitation program conducted by PT INALUM at Toba Lake or Danau Toba, through the planting of trees in seven regencies around the area and the development of the Biodiversity Garden (Taman Keanekaragaman Hayati – Kehati) as a center of education and conservation of the Toba Lake ecosystem.

The rehabilitation program of MIND ID and Members has given a tangible impact for the environment and the people.

The rehabilitation has contributed to the improvement in the quality of water, recovery of the ecosystem, provision of clean water, as well as the productive economic activity growth in the areas around operational sites. These efforts also assist in reducing the risk of floods and strengthening environmental resilience.
