MIND ID Pushes 10,000 UMKs to Be Promoted, Creating People-Centered Economy in the Regions

MIND ID or Mining Industry Indonesia, the Holding State-Owned Enterprise for the Mining Industry, continues to strengthen its commitment to encourage people-centered economy through the empowerment of Micro and Small Businesses (UMK) in various operational areas.

Up to the mid 2025, more than 10,000 UMKs under its guidance, have become part of MIND ID Group’s supply chain. From the number, hundreds have managed to graduate to become the motor of economic strength in their regions.

This step is in line with the national development direction and Asta Cita of the President, which places the creation of quality jobs, strengthening of entrepreneurship, as well as the creative industry’s even spread of development in all regions.

MIND ID Corporate Secretary, Pria Utama, stressed that the partiality towards UMKs constitutes a tangible form of the mining sector’s role in supporting the government’s development agenda.

“For us, mining is not only mineral production. It is more than that, mining is the local peoples’ economic driver in the regions, which has become a source of energy to open more opportunities for the peoples’ efforts to grow, develop, and take part in contributing to the national economy,” he said.

Through various development programs, MIND ID provides total accompaniment for UMK players, from management training, product innovation, digitalization, to expansion of market access.

Such approach is effective to create an economic system that is inclusive and sustainable, particularly in the areas around the operations of the mines.

An example of success comes from Haiedi Ulandari, who established Pempek Hudi in Palembang, a UMK under the guidance of PT Bukit Asam Tbk. The home industry whose former income was about Rp 30 million per month, is now able to generate Rp 300 million per month, and employing 13 local workers. 

This success shows how consistent accompaniment program can boost UMKs, while at the same time, place them as the regional economy’s motor.

Similar positive impact have also been felt by players of UMK Sambal Lumako, Nata de Coco, and Ikan Asap in the operational areas of PT Vale Indonesia, MIND ID member.

With product development training, business accompaniment, and promotional support, these local businesses have managed to operate independently, expand sales to various regions and become a source of employment for hundreds of people living around the mines.

The success shows how collaboration between industry and local community can grow creative economy in the region.

Pria explained that this initiative shows that the mining industry can also become the mover of the peoples’ economy, in line with the government’s aspirations in expanding job opportunities, strengthening local businesses, and growing creative economy in the regions. 

MIND ID ensures that the UMK assistance program will be sustainable so that at the end, the UMKs will be able to independently grow capacity for competition and optimal contribution for the region.
