MIND ID Supports and Preserves Domestic Coffee Products

Jakarta, 03 October 2022. MIND ID or Mining Industry Indonesia, the Holding State-Owned Enterprise for the Mining Industry, with members PT Aneka Tambang Tbk, PT Bukit Asam Tbk, PT Freeport Indonesia, PT Inalum (Persero) dan PT Timah Tbk, continues its commitment to implement sustainable community development programs in the plantation sector.

This was conveyed by MIND ID’s Director of Institutional Relations, Dany Amrul Ichdan, who explained that “MIND ID continues to support the strategic programs in the sustainability field of the Regional Government, specifically in the surrounding areas of MIND ID Group’s operations.

The community development programs are focused on commodities of strategic value to promote the independency of the communities living in the surrounding operational areas. As an example, in Halmahera Timur (East Halmahera), PT ANTAM Tbk established a program called “Welfare and Independency of Coffee Farmers” aimed at raising food security of the local people, the objective of which is in line with point 2 of the Sustainable Development Goals, Zero Hunger.

PT ANTAM Tbk has also initiated the Buli Coffee plantation since 2017. Production increased over the years and continues to supply demand for coffee beans from the provincial level.

In West Sumatera, PT Bukit Asam Tbk has a sustainable initiative enabling the Semende Coffee to become a leading commodity. This economic program aims to establish the Gemilang Pelakat Village as the coffee and agricultural produce industry center.

PT Inalum (Persero) also takes part in developing the partners under its stewardship program in the field of coffee production. Kono Kopi Gayo is the coffee bean produced by farmers from the Highlands of Central Aceh. The industry under its program since 2016 receives working capital, training and marketing assistance.

The MIND ID Group is aware on the importance of Small, Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in developing plantations, specifically in the field of coffee. In Papua, PT Freeport Indonesia empowers the local people to produce high quality coffee. With the establishment of the Amungme Gold Cooperative in 2013, PT Freeport Indonesia supports the sustainable Papua coffee industry development, through business empowerment, education, training and promotion.

“The commemoration of World Coffee Day (1 October 2022) becomes a moment of reflection for the MIND ID Group in supporting the preservation of natural resources and maximize the potential of the regions. We are committed to continue making sustainability a reality, by optimizing the involvement of the surrounding communities and initiating community development programs which provide long term benefits,” Dany concluded.
