MIND ID Supports Industrial Transformation For The Sake of Civilization

The government stressed the importance of downstreaming and industrialization as strategic keys to building a self-governing and sustainable economy.

This has been fully implemented through MIND ID or Mining Industry Indonesia, the Holding State-Owned Enterprise for the Mining Industry, in managing and processing mineral resources to enable the continuation of the national industrial transformation for the sake of future civilization.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, at the Minerba Convex 2025, said that Indonesia will not retreat in running its natural resource downstreaming agenda, although facing various external and domestic pressures.

He believes that downstreaming has proven to be able to provide major added value for the national economy. He cited an example, such as the transformation of the nickel industry, formerly only producing an export value of US$3.3 billion in 2017-2018, now increasing to US$35-US$40 billion per year after the government stopped the export of raw ore and raised the development of the domestic processing industry.

“This shows the government’s presence in building the road map of natural resource management based on added value and creating employment opportunities and economic growth in the regions,” he said, Wednesday (15/10/2025).

He also focused on the success of the copper smelter construction by Freeport Indonesia at Gresik with an investment of US$3 billion, now able to process 3 million tons of concentrate to become 50-60 tons of gold per year.

Moreover, Bahlil disclosed that the government also is preparing 18-20 strategic projects worth US$38 billion or about Rp618 trillion, which have been handed to Investment Management Agency (BPI) Danantara Indonesia.

The projects are believed to be able to create more than 1 million direct and indirect employment, while at the same time, boost the even distribution of economic growth in various regions in Indonesia.

Bahlil also emphasized the importance of sustainable and fair mining management, including the redistribution of mining licenses to UMKMs (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises), cooperatives, and BUMDs (Regional-Owned Enterprises) so that local people can become the master in their own territory. 

MIND ID also stressed its commitment in supporting the national industry transformation as part of its efforts to build future civilization.

MIND ID Corporate Secretary, Pria Utama, said that the mining sector has an important role in the long journey of building human civilization.

Every mineral from the earth has been mostly utilized to make various products to support industrial advancement and modern technology.

“MIND ID together with Group Members will continue to be the downstreaming mover to always support industrial transformation for the sake of providing huge benefits for future lives,” said Pria.

He explained that changes in energy and technology forms in various sectors show how the role of mining mineral remains the core of each phase of industrial advancement. In the past, coal was the main power of locomotives, now electric trains are running with energy flowing through copper cables.

If in the past, iron and steel dominate the fossil fuel machine era, now copper, aluminium, and nickel have become the backbone of electric vehicles. Meanwhile, tin mineral plays an important role in the digital technology system due to its high electrical conductivity nature.

Pria stressed that behind the mineral exploration and production, a great contribution has been made towards social, economic and environmental advancements.

“With this spirit, MIND ID will continue its commitment to become part of the nation’s journey in building future civilization in which industrial advancements, environmental sustainability, and peoples’ welfare are running parallel,” he emphasized.
