MIND ID Group Optimizes Added Value of Indonesia’s Coal to Strengthen Smart Mining Initiative

JAKARTA - MIND ID or Mining Industry Indonesia, the Holding State-Owned Enterprise for the Mining Industry, continues to strengthen digital transformation in the national mining sector through the adoption of smart mining initiative.

One of the strategic steps is presented by PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), who has developed full digital integration, from operational level to the information system of the company.

The transformation has made Indonesia’s coal mining operations more efficient, safe, producing added value, while at the same time a big contribution for the country.

PTBA’s digital initiative was developed through a series connecting Operational Technology (OT) with Information Technology (IT), enabling the entire operational process monitored in real time, measured, and connected in one digital ecosystem.

Through the CiSEA (Corporate Information System for Enterprise Application) platform, the production, transportation, work safety, to maintenance of mining equipment, can now be managed comprehensively based on integrated data.

MIND ID Corporate Secretary, Pria Utama, explained that the digital transformation has become an important foundation for MIND ID in boosting the strength of the national coal industry.

Through the adoption of digital technology application, the company can now monitor mining activities in real time, optimizing work process, and raising production results.

The real time digitalization adoption was able to raise coal production by 10-20% compared to the period before.

Digitalization will also become the foundation of the MIND ID Group in raising coal production from 41 million tons to 100 million tons in future, to respond to national energy needs and downstreaming program.

“Through this digital transformation, we exert all efforts to have the mining sector capable of becoming the backbone for the advancement of the nation,” he said.

Pria explained that with one of the applications, the Cisea, Bukit Asam currently operates more than one hundred digital modules utilized by more than seven thousand internal users, with a data gathering level of seventy percent of all operational activities.

This system has integrated sensor network, automatic equipment, heavy equipment monitoring system, to machine learning based analitics.

Through such approach, the production process of coal can be controlled at a more precise level, including mining plans, scheduling of production equipment, to monitoring of energy and emission.

This digital system also enables the company to strengthen environmental governance through the monitoring of water quality, rehabilitation of land, as well as control of operational areas digitally.

With data automization and transparency, PTBA ensures that all mining process are running according to good mining practice.

Pria Utama added that mining digitalization is an important step for the future of Indonesia’s mining, as it will be able to reduce production costs, raise productivity, while at the same time, ensure world class safety standard.
