MIND ID Strengthens UMK Development to Boost Employment in Sulawesi

Jakarta, 7 July 2025 – MIND ID or Mining Industry Indonesia, the Holding State-Owned Enterprise for the Mining Industry, continues its commitment to boost regional economic growth and employment through its Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (UMK).

This sustainable initiative is part of the company’s social responsibility to ensure that the downstream program benefits are felt inclusively by all layers of the community.

Through PT Vale Indonesia Tbk, MIND ID has posted the fostering of 113 UMKs throughout 2024 in Sulawesi. The program is implemented through interactive and applicative training approaches in order to raise the capacity and capability of UMKs under its guidance. 

MIND ID Corporate Secretary, Pria Utama, explained that UMKs are the backbone of Indonesia’s economy, with considerable contribution to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and the biggest absorption of workers nationally, including in Sulawesi.

With such a huge potential, the MIND ID Group through Vale Indonesia, consistently conducts guidance of UMK’s in order that they develop into business units with competitive ability and have appropriate business scale to support regional economy and employment of its workforce.

“This step is also part of MIND ID’s commitment to ensure that the benefits of the nickel downstreaming program in Sulawesi can be fully felt, especially by the local people,” he said.

Pria said that the main focus of the guidance covers the ability of business players to compile solid and market oriented business plans, improving efficiency and quality of products through the appropriate production technology, as well as strengthening the mastery of marketing channels, digital as well as conventional.

The success of the program can be seen from the advancements made by Sambal Lumako, Nata de Coco and Ikan Asap (Smoked Fish) businesses, who have been able to promote their products to various regions and be a source of non formal job sources for hundreds of people in Vale Indonesia’s operational region.

“We will continue to support the strengthening of UMK’s sustainable ecosystem in order to create strong business people who become future pillars of civilization,” Pria concluded.
