MIND ID Receives Sustainable Company Award at 2023 ICAII

Jakarta, 21 September 2023 – MIND ID, the Holding State-Owned Enterprise for the Mining Industry, is nominated for the Sustainable Mining Program Award for the Sustainability category, at the 2023 IDX Channel Indonesia Innovation Award (ICAII). The award for the sustainability category is a form of appreciation received by the company for the innovation undertaken which fulfilled the interests of the company at present, but not forgetting the interest of future generations.

The sustainable category award is a benchmark of the company’s role in social as well as economic aspects, such as the implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Good Corporate Governance (GCG), and other sustainability strategies.

The awards were handed at the Main Hall of the Indonesian Stock Exchange, South Jakarta, on Thursday, 21 September 2023, at 20.00 WIB. The awarding event was entertained by the jazz music group, Maliq & D’Essentials.

Corporate Secretary of MIND ID, Heri Yusuf, said that the innovation entered in the ICAII 2023, which is the reclamation of former mining land, was done based on the principles of sustainability.

 “The award that we received at the ICAII 2023 event, of course, added to the spirit of MIND ID to continue contributing to the advancement of the nation and to become a foremost mining industry holding company that adopts the sustainability concept,” said Heri, in Jakarta, Thursday, 21 September 2023.

For information, MIND ID, through a member of the group, PT Timah Tbk, has conducted the reclamation of former mining land based on sustainability principles, which provide positive benefits for the local people. PT Timah Tbk has made the post-mined reclamation a strategic plan since the beginning so that it can be implemented according to the best practices.

In this connection, the company has integrated the principles of sustainable development in the planning and strategy of the Air Jangkang Reclamation Program, since the phases of investment, design, and operational plan, to monitoring according to the 6th ICMM principle, namely environmental performance. Even in the master plan of the Air Jangkang reclamation, the Company has also considered the health and safety, environment, community involvement, local culture, and human rights aspects, based on the level of risks related to the Air Jangkang Reclamation Program, to be in line with the 15th UNSDGs principle, Land Ecosystem.

“MIND ID is committed to supporting environmental and sustainable projects. One of these is the former mining land reclamation innovation which embraces the principles of sustainability. The MIND ID Group continues to give added value to Indonesia,” said Heri.

Heri explained that the company conducts reclamation to organize, recover, and improve the environmental and ecosystem quality in order that they can function again according to their designation. Aside from adherence to regulations, PT Timah Tbk conducts reclamation to provide long-term benefits to the local people and environmental balance to the surroundings, in accordance with the seventh and eighth principles of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), namely that business should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges; and undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility.

“The Air Jangkang Reclamation Kampoeng is one of the former mining lands which has successfully been restored by PT Timah Tbk and provides a long-term benefit to the local people,” explained Heri.

The Air Jangkang Reclamation Kampoeng is located in Riding Panjang Village, Merawang District, Bangka Regency, and is 37 hectares in size. The Air Jangkang Reclamation Kampoeng began in 2013 with a trial planting of 6 hectares of a bioenergy plant called sunan candlenut (kemiri sunan). Now, various trees and fruit trees have been planted, becoming a tourist destination carrying the concept of integrated education, economy, and tourism.

This area’s function is redirected to become several spots, such as agriculture, estate, fishery, research, and tourism, to the temporary shelter of some protected animals which will later be released again. In the process of development and management of this reclamation region, PT Timah Tbk also cooperated with the Regional Government, Natural Resources Conservation Center (Bali Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam - BKSDA), and Non-Government Organizations.

The ICAII 2023 theme is “Advancing Agile Innovation for Sustainable Growth”. Aside from giving various awards, several companies have been chosen to receive various categories of awards at the ICAII event.
