MIND ID Targets Energy Supply for Electrification Throughout Sumatera

Tanjung Lalang, 10 April 2025 – MIND ID or Mining Industry Indonesia, the Holding State-Owned Enterprise for the Mining Industry, asserted its commitment to create national energy self-sufficiency by targeting electricity supply for the entire Sumatera Island.

This was stated by MIND ID President Director, Maroef Sjamsoeddin, in his visit to the Mulut Tambang Sumsel-8 (Tanjung Lalang) Power Plant managed by PT Huadian Bukit Asam Power (HBAP), the subsidiary of strategic cooperation between PT Bukit Asam Tbk and China Huadian Group.

The visit was made by Maroef together with Bukit Asam President Director, Arsal Ismail, and members of the Board of Commissioners and Directors of MIND ID and Bukit Asam.

He said that the Tanjung Lalang Power Plant managed by PT Huadian Bukit Asam Power (HBAP) has a capacity of 2x660 MW, and at present, still operating at a utilization level of about 50%.

Maroef stressed that with the large capacity and leading technology, the MIND ID Group targets PT Huadian Bukit Asam Power (HBAP) to become the front line to supply electricity throughout Sumatera.

“We must have a large target, and we believe that Bukit Asam together with the Huadian Group are capable of making this happen,” said Maroef.

Not only leading in capacity, this power plant also reflects the high standard in environmental management. The power plant is equipped with the Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) technology which is capable of suppressing the exhaust gas to under the threshold determined by the government, making it one of the most environmentally friendly coal based electric generator in the region.

“This MT Sumsel-8 power plant is one of the biggest mine mouth electric generator in Southeast Asia. We are proud that its operation is using low emission technology supporting the sustainable principal,” Maroef added.

Furthermore, Maroef stressed that this effort is part of MIND ID’s big strategy in optimizing the national management of natural resources. Through Bukit Asam, the MIND ID Group is presently managing total coal resource of 5.8 million tons, with a reserve of 2.9 million tons.

All initiatives of energy development are implemented to provide the biggest benefits for the people and support the course of national development.

The reserve is also optimized for the supply of energy needs to enable the implementation of the downstreaming program, in the efforts to raise the added value of minerals and coal in Indonesia.

“This step is in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s Asta Cita (eight primary missions), in creating energy independence as a foundation for the nation’s sovereignty,” he stressed.
