MIND ID Tests Artificial Intelligence-based Digital Application for Exploration

Jakarta, 27 June 2022 – MIND ID or Mining Industry Indonesia, the Holding State-Owned Enterprise for the Mining Industry, with members PT Aneka Tambang Tbk, PT Bukit Asam Tbk, PT Freeport Indonesia, PT Inalum (Persero) dan PT Timah Tbk, tests the use of digital data capturing applications with Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based technology and machine learning for exploration activities called Geologging. This joint initiation with PT ANTAM Tbk (ANTAM) constitutes one of MIND ID’s commitment in driving smart mining to optimize the business and operational process of the Company.

Geologging application test is conducted at ANTAM's exploration activities, in Gold Mining Business Unit in West Java. Geologging is able to identify and calculate core samples such as Rock Quality Designation RQD, Core Recovery, and others.

Geologging has three features, namely, Safety Inspection, Drilling Process and Foto Core, equipped with Artificial Intelligence (AI).  MIND ID hopes that the Geologging application will be the problem solver for the efficiency and optimalization of exploration activities for MIND ID Members.

The testing initiative focuses on three areas, namely (i) Field adjustment in Geologging application in line with the needs of field officers; (ii) Integration of Geologging AI in current application which is “Rinda Emas” (geomechanical digital application of ANTAM); and (iii) Direct testing. Trial and error is necessary as the use of AI in Core Logging is still very minimal.

ANTAM's Rinda Emas application is developed as a result of risks due to errors in data taking and the minimal technology in the exploration field, the lack of technology to support efficiency in exploration and the lack of optimization in data collection for digital exploration activities. The collaboration between Rinda Emas and Geologging is expected will help minimize input errors, increase efficiency by streamlining the data collecting process and improve the quality and standardization of geological data and drilling activity data. The collaboration is expected to help the efficiency and effectiveness of ANTAM's exploration activities.

This digital application is developed by the Safepedia team, one of the winners of MIND ID Goes Digital 2021 innovation competition.  Safepedia has five members who are experienced in the digital field, specifically in the areas of health, safety, environment, database of mining exploration, with members Munsi Liano and Agung Banyu as Hacker, Ari Soeldjana and Aditya Pratomo as Hustler, and Agus Tri as Hipster.

The Mining Industry Holding was officially formed on 27 November 2017, with PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (Persero) as the holding company with majority shares in four largest mining companies in Indonesia, PT Aneka Tambang Tbk, PT Bukit Asam Tbk, PT Timah Tbk and PT Freeport Indonesia.

On 17 August 2019, the Mining Industry Holding was transformed into MIND ID (Mining Industry Indonesia) to differentiate the functions of INALUM as Holding and as Operational company.
