Commemorating World Environment Day, Sustainable Programs Conducted by MIND ID

Jakarta, 6 June 2023 – World Environment Day is commemorated every 5th of June. The theme for World Environment Day 2023 is “Beat Plastic Pollution”. This theme is a kind of alarm for us to deal with plastic pollution problems through joint efforts.

World Environment Day 2023 shows that a joint role is needed to deal with the increasingly crucial plastic problem. All sectors, from government, business, as well as individuals, need to work hand in hand to minimize the use of plastic to reduce plastic pollution.

MIND ID also takes direct involvement in commemorating World Environment Day. The Holding State-Owned Enterprise for the Mining Industry conducts several programs in the context of environmental conservation. 

Several efforts have been successfully conducted by MIND ID in the efforts to conserve the environment, through several Members of the MIND ID Group, such as PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (ANTM), through the planting of 4,99 million trees on an area of 4.541 hectares in post mining land, watershed and coastal areas.

Other Members, through PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) who consistently undertake efforts to conserve coral reefs at Pahawang Island, Pesawaran Regency, Lampung. Moreover, the coal mining company also conducted reclamation in 2.146,83 hectares of land during 2022.

PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) has also successfully planted 2,6 million mangroves in 450 hectares of land. Then there is PT Inalum who has successfully planted more than 616 million seedlings throughout 2022.

Finally, there is MIND ID Member, PT Timah Tbk (TINS), who has planted 18.100 mangrove trees in several operational areas throughout the Regency of Bangka-Belitung. PT Timah has also developed the Jangkang Water Reclamation Kampoeng which has been made into a tourist destination area in Bangka Island.

MIND ID Corporate Secretary Heri Yusuf said that the role of MIND ID in environmental conservation efforts are already in the practical level, in which several environmental programs through various schemes have already been conducted by mining companies under the auspicious of MIND ID.

“In commemorating International Environment Day, we constantly continue to provide examples as a holding company in the mining sector which sets forth sustainability and environmental friendliness,” said Heri Yusuf, Tuesday (6/6/2023).

Heri explained that the concern of MIND ID towards environmental issues are proven through actual efforts in implementing its sustainable programs, such as planting trees, reclamation and so on.

Moreover, MIND ID continues to encourage all of its member companies to move and initiate energy transition in each operation. There are three main decarbonization pillars applied by MIND ID, covering avoid, reduce and mitigate.

“The pillars are part of MIND ID’s efforts to make a success of the carbon reduction program until Net Zero Emissions target is achieved in 2060,” said Heri.

MIND ID has been chosen as one of the participants with the best booth at the Indonesia GREEN (Indogreen) Forestry Environment Expo 2023, at the Jogja Expo Center (JEC), at the beginning of March 2023. The event was held by the Ministry of the Environment.

MIND ID, State Enterprise for the Mining Industry, together with members PT ANTAM Tbk, PT Bukit Asam Tbk, PT Freeport Indonesia, PT INALUM, PT Timah Tbk, during the exhibition show its commitment to implement each mining practice in line with the principles of good mining practice, setting forth sustainable mining.

Not only sustainable in terms of business operations, but also the natural ecosystem. Moreover, the MIND ID Group also takes part in supporting climate change through energy transition which has become one of the ways to reduce carbon emission.
