MIND ID Group’s Community Empowerment Program at East Halmahera Gets ICAII 2022 Award

Jakarta, 25 August 2022 – The MIND ID Group, and Members PT Antam Tbk, PT Bukit Asam Tbk, PT Freeport Indonesia, PT Inalum (Persero) dan PT Timah Tbk, again received an award for its Community Empowerment Innovation Program. This time, the company, with issuer code ANTM, was able to secure an award in the Sustainability Category for its innovation entitled “Utilization of Coconut Waste into Coconet and Cocopeat”.

The MIND ID Group believes that community empowerment in the surrounding areas of the Company’s operations, aside from maintaining business sustainability, is also capable of raising the per capita income of the area.  The MIND ID Group is committed to implement collaboration in the empowerment of communities located in the surrounding areas of its mining operations.

The program is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals, at least point 1, No Poverty; point 3, Good Health and Well-Being; point 8, Decent Work and Economic Growth; and point 10, Reduced Inequalities.

MIND ID’s Director of Institutional Relations, Dany Amrul Ichdan, attending the awards night (24/08), expressed his gratitude and appreciation to all parties, particularly PT Antam Tbk, who took part in implementing the integrated Coconut Empowerment Program. “This award is a trigger for the MIND ID Group to continue its commitment to maintain business sustainability, among others, through community empowerment in surrounding areas.  We believe that the surrounding communities have a sizeable potential to be developed,” he said.

The Integrated Coconut Industry Program at East Halmahera is operated through an institution formed by PT Antam Tbk, namely the Lembaga Varamau (Varamau Institute), which is an integrated group of farmers and coconut industry crafts people in North Maluku in the form of the Community Development and Empowerment (PPM) organization.  The purpose is to play an active role in community business and entrepreneurship; creating beneficial and environmentally friendly, innovative products and opening job opportunities as well as raising community prosperity.

Coconut waste is turned into various processed products with high economic value. Coconut waste, in the form of coconut fibre, is utilized as Coconet, while the powder becomes Cocopeat used as planting media in the reclamation of land.  Cococraft is the product of coconut waste, processed to become various crafts, one of which is Cocopot, a pot made from coconut fibre as replacement for polybags.

“The presence of PT Antam Tbk and the MIND ID Group is capable of contributing towards a better and sustainable civilization, through mining products as well as contribution to the community, now and even in the post mining era,” added Dany.
