Scholarship Selection Process Starts, MIND ID’s Progress in the Field of Education

Jakarta, 23 February 2024 – MIND ID or Mining Industry Indonesia, the Holding State-Owned Enterprise for the Mining Industry, has conducted many education programs. Recently, one of MIND ID Group Members, PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), has commenced the 2024 Education Assistance Program for Students Living Around Bukit Asam or Bidiksiba.

“In line with the vision and mission of MIND ID, namely, to manage natural resources for civilization, prosperity, and a brighter future. Education is a very important factor in achieving a brighter future,” said MIND ID Corporate Secretary, Heri Yusuf. 

Currently, the 2024 Bidiksiba Program has entered the selection process. As many as 240 participants were able to pass the administrative phase and go to the subsequent selection, namely the psycho test and English language test.

From a total of 240 participants, as many as 175 came from the Tanjung Enim Mining Unit, 8 from the Kertapati Port Unit, 25 from the Tarahan Port Unit, and 32 from the Ombilin Mining Unit.

The 183 participants from the Tanjung Enim Mining Unit and Kertapati Port Unit will take part in the psychotest and English language test on 20-21 February 2024. This will be followed by 32 participants from the Ombilin Mining Unit on 24 February 2024 and 25 participants from the Tarahan Port Unit on 26 February 2024. 

This program shows the efforts of PT Bukit Asam Tbk to open opportunities for students from underprivileged families to receive education, thereby cutting the poverty chain. The Bidiksiba Program gives opportunities to graduates of high school/similar level school from underprivileged families living around the company premises to further their education to the University level (D-III or Diploma Three).

Since the program was implemented from 2013 to 2023, as many as 345 scholarship recipients have been produced. For the 2024 Bidiksiba Program, PT Bukit Asam Tbk cooperates with the Sriwijaya State Polytechnic, Malang State Polytechnic, and Lampung State Polytechnic.

Other MIND ID Group Members have also implemented various education scholarship programs. MIND ID Group’s PT Timah Tbk has the Timah Mengajar program in the Karimun Regency, Riau Islands Province. With this program, PT Timah Tbk undertakes efforts to promote the quality of education and competencies of teachers.

The company supports education facilities and infrastructure through the training of 50 teachers, from Elementary, Junior, and High Schools to Vocational High Schools in Kundur Barat and Kundur Utara Districts. Aside from Timah Mengajar, PT Timah Tbk also has several other programs in the education field, such as scholarships for exemplary students, direct assistance to children of fishermen, and training of teachers. 

Meanwhile, MIND ID Group’s PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) also has programs in the field of education, through Yayasan Pendidikan Jayawijaya (YPJ) or Jayawijaya Education Foundation. This foundation is under the management of PT Freeport Indonesia and has held 2023 Education Fair activities in two locations, at Tembagapura YPJ on 10 November 2023 and Kuala Kencana YPJ Junior High School on 13-14 November 2023.

As many as 27 leading schools have taken part in the activities this year, one of these is Semesta School, which is one of the leading schools in Central Java. Through the Education Fair 2023, the students and parents are given ease in determining the subsequent school.

Another MIND ID Group member, PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (ANTAM), also participated in promoting education in the areas surrounding the mines. Through its Nickel Mining Business Unit in North Konawa, PT ANTAM Tbk, together with the North Konawe Regency Administration, has launched a scholarship program for students in Elementary, Junior, and Senior High Schools/similar level school in Malawe and Lasola Islands Districts.

In 2023, as many as 137 students have received scholarships in the form of student savings account books. With this scholarship, it is hoped that education in the areas surrounding the mines can develop due to the advancement of human resources in North Konawe Regency. 

Meanwhile, MIND ID Group’s PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (INALUM) has also granted bachelor’s degree scholarships and training at INALUM Leadership Camp. In 2022, as many as 100 people from eight municipalities/regencies under the company’s main operational territory of TJSL, or Social and Environmental Responsibility, will receive bachelor’s degree scholarships.

They are currently studying at North Sumatra University, Medan State University, and North Sumatra State Islamic University. While 134 students have succeeded in their studies and have received their bachelor’s degree from these scholarships.

Aside from scholarships, all recipients from PT INALUM also took part in the INALUM Leadership Camp, training activities to step up their soft skills with various themes. The S1 scholarship program and training are subsequent programs that have been conceived since 2019.

The success of this program is also due to the cooperation of PT INALUM and several strategic partners, such as Yayasan Karya Salemba Empat (KSE), Paguyuban KSE (KSE Association) of North Sumatra University, Paguyuban KSE (KSE Association) of Medan State University, and Paguyuban KSA (KSA Association) of North Sumatra State Islamic University. Through these programs, the company has also succeeded in raising the academic value of recipients (IP/IPK semester genap – IP/IPK even semester) by 87 percent, developing a foster village program, as well as raising the independence of the people living in the surrounding areas of the company, such as Halado Village, North Meranti Village, and Perupuk Village.
