International Success of Micro and Small Food Businesses under the Guidance of MIND ID

Jakarta, 11 December 2023 – MIND ID, the Holding State-Owned Enterprise for the Mining Industry, continues to promote the economy of people living around its operational areas through various development programs of Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs). As a result, several MSEs in the food sector improved greatly and some succeeded in the national and international scene.

“The MIND ID Group continues to encourage MSEs around its operational territory to advance and develop,” said MIND ID Corporate Secretary Heri Yusuf.

One of the supported MSEs of PT Timah Tbk, Dahlena, is an example. She began to build her culinary business of Ampiang or snack making of fish specific to Bangka Belitung Island Province, with the name of Ampiang Ikan Raisyah. 

Dahlena began her business in 2008, experiencing ups and downs, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. Her persistence in building her business was welcomed by PT Timah Tbk’s PUMK or Funding of Micro Small Business Program. 

Aside from helping with funding, PT Timah Tbk also assisted in promoting the product in exhibitions. Recently, PT Timah Tbk also assisted in facilitating Dahlena’s products to be halal-certified for free.

Dahlena admitted that there are a lot of benefits to becoming one of the supported MSEs of PT Timah Tbk. Aside from marketing, the supported MSEs also take part in various training programs. 

Another benefit is also received by Jerni Kartika Manurung, a genuine forest honey entrepreneur called Mauas JKM, who became a supported MSE of PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium (INALUM). Due to PT INALUM’s assistance, his business was able to penetrate the international market.

Mauas JKM is one of the MSEs under the guidance of PT INALUM in the Toba Regency, North Sumatra. This MSE has received intellectual property rights or patents for the honey product brand.

With the assistance of PT INALUM, the business which has been able to penetrate the international market, can produce income of tens of million rupiah per month. He started the business in 2017, and the success of his business is attributed to the involvement of PT INALUM.

At every activity in Toba Regency, PT INALUM frequently gives honey products as a giveaway for distinguished guests. PT INALUM once provided a capital loan of Rp15 million with an administrative cost of 3 percent, which was used to buy honey stock from honey farmers.

Jerni said that soon, PT INALUM will take him to Singapore to promote Mauas. Through this development program, PT INALUM hopes that there will be more productive and professional MSEs.

The same is being implemented by PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (ANTAM). One of the supported MSEs, Kolka Griya, has been able to penetrate the international market.

Kolka Griya, a business owned by Eny Sedyanti, is located in the same territory as PT ANTAM Tbk’s Pongkor Gold Mining Business Unit (UBPE). Located in Cimanggis, Depok, West Java, Kolka Griya is a supported MSE of PT ANTAM Tbk since 2015.

Kolka Griya developed a sugar palm fruit or kolang kaling which has a variety of flavors, from original, rock sugar, cocopandan, grape, and lychee. The basic ingredient of this product is taken from the Aren or palm tree that is sent directly by the farmers to the production place.

Becoming a supported MSE of the MIND ID Group, Kolka Griya not only received funding but also assistance in business development as well as market expansion. Aside from being sold in Shopee and Tokopedia, Kolka Griya also took part in international exhibitions, including the 2023 ASEAN SUMMIT.

Meanwhile, Istana Roti Bakery, the supported MSE of PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), also received special benefits through the PT Bukit Asam Tbk Partnership Program in 2020. One of the assistants received a 5-kilogram capacity mixing machine to make cakes.

The owner of Istana Roti Bakery, Diana Wati, said that the assistance from PT Bukit Asam Tbk has enabled her business to increase production. In the beginning, her business only had a bread-making machine, subsequently with additional capital from PT Bukit Asam Tk, Istana Roti Bakery began to increase production.

Within a day, the factory was able to use up 75-100 kilograms of flour. There are eight types of bread produced daily.

PT Bukit Asam Tbk not only assisted through funding and production equipment, but the company also provided guidance to overcome business problems that may arise.  Such training and guidance are routinely provided each month through Rumah BUMN Bukit Asam.

The success of the supported MSE was also experienced by PT Freeport Indonesia. The MSE under the guidance of PT Freeport Indonesia, Rumah Kopi Amungme Gold (Amungme Gold Coffee House), was officiated on 14 March 2022. This has made Papuan Coffee recognized globally. 

Rumah Kopi Amungme Gold is located at Jalan Malaria Kontrol Malkon, behind Chandra Hospital, Jalan Budi Utomo, Timika. This house produces Amungme coffee provided by locals in the highlands of Mimika, around the mining area of PT Freeport Indonesia.

This coffee has a long history of production from year to year. The program has been under the guidance of PT Freeport Indonesia since 1998.  

Then, in 2005, Amungme Gold Coffee began small-scale coffee production. Afterwards in 2014, a cooperation was established with the regional government with the support of PT Freeport Indonesia, based on an annual Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The management of PT Freeport Indonesia has also assisted other supported MSEs who are still active currently. The company also provided socialization and understanding to the people living in the highlands.

The reason is that this coffee needs 5-10 years to produce. Through cooperation with the village head, this coffee can be grown on individual property. Now, in the villages, the people who own their own land or have hak ulayat (community rights) on their land, are growing coffee beans.

To date, there are 154 coffee farmers who are active members of the Amungme Gold Coffee Cooperative. With the opening of the Rumah Kopi Amungme Gold, the special Papua coffee can be made into a business as the company has already provided access, facilities, and guidance, as well as cooperation with the regional government.

Amungme Gold coffee is one of the leading commodities in Mimika Regency. This coffee is already recognized outside of Papua, even worldwide.
