Producing Indonesian Sports Champions Together with the MIND ID Group

Jakarta, 9 September 2022 – Together Producing Champions is the theme of the National Sports Day 2022. This year is the 39^th commemoration of the positive efforts to develop Indonesian sports initiated by the government as well as institutions and other private organizations.

The National Sports Day is a momentum for the MIND ID Group to reflect its support for the human resource development in the sports field. MIND ID or Mining Industry Indonesia, the Holding State-Owned Enterprise for the Mining Industry, with members PT Aneka Tambang Tbk, PT Bukit Asam Tbk, PT Freeport Indonesia, PT Inalum (Persero) dan PT Timah Tbk, continues to support the advancement of sports in Indonesia.

Take for example, the Asian Paragames 2022, which just came to a close in Solo, Central Java.  The MIND ID Group sponsored the event, which concluded with the Indonesian delegation scoring the General Champion Award.

PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) also supported the emergence of soccer athletes from Papua. On 31 August 2022, President Joko Widodo inaugurated the Papua Football Academy (PFA) at Lukas Enembe Stadium in Sentani, Papua.  PFA is a continuation of the 2021 National Sports Week (PON) XX in Papua.

As many as 60 students have been selected for the PFA. They have been given the chance to train professionally with six trainers, and also live at the Mimika Sports Complex (MSC) with formal education provided, thereby developing as accomplished athletes as well as getting the necessary education.

MIND ID Director of Institutional Relations, Dany Amrul Ichdan, said that “The MIND ID Group is committed to support the development of sports in Indonesia.  This is part of MIND ID’s sustainability pathway, specifically concerning the people pillar, which is to develop the potential and skills of each individual, whether those living in the surrounding mining areas or throughout the nation, particularly in the field of sports.”

Moreover, MIND ID also supported the IFSC – Climbing World Cup conducted by the Indonesian Rock Climbing Federation or Federasi Panjat Tebing Indonesia (FPTI). IFSC is an international, non-government, non-profit organization whose main purpose is to provide directives, regulation, promotion, development, and implementation of sports climbing competitions throughout the world.

International competitions in sports climbing began since 1989. The number of competition and venue varied from year to year.  In 2022, Indonesia and eight other countries became the hosts for the international sports climbing competition. In Indonesia, the competition will be conducted in September at SCBD, South Jakarta.

In the previous period, Indonesian rock climbing athlete, Kiromal Katibin, broke the world record on his own behalf, at 5.00 seconds, when competing at the international event, IFSC World Cup 2022 in Chamonix, France (8/7/2022). While at The World Games in Birmingham, USA (15/7/2022) Indonesia took home the gold and silver category for men’s speed.
