Ministry of the Environment and Forestry Declares MIND ID Booth as the Best in Indogreen Expo 2023

Jakarta, 07 March 2023 - The Indonesia Green (Indogreen) Forestry Environment Expo 2023 has been concluded at the Jogja Expo Center (JeC) on Sunday. The biggest forestry expo in Indonesia held every year by the Ministry of the Environment and Forestry (KLHK) announces that the MIND ID Group is one of the participants with the best booth.

KLHK’s Head of the Public Relations Bureau, Nunu Anugrah, expressed his thanks to all participants of the expo and to visitors, for their interest and enthusiasm. Thank you, as this shows that many are concerned towards the environment and forestry, and invites all of us to become solutions of the challenges we are facing together.

“The Indonesian Government continues to strengthen actions at field which provide examples to the global community that the challenges threatening us can be dealt with concrete field actions, putting forth multilaterialism, collaborative paradigm and cooperation. All of us should be part of the solution,” said Nunu.

During the Expo, MIND ID and its Members, PT Antam Tbk, PT Bukit Asam Tbk, PT Freeport Indonesia, PT Inalum (Persero), PT Timah Tbk, show commitment to execute every mining practice in line with the principles of good mining practice, setting forth sustainable mining.  Not only sustainable in terms of business operations, but also its natural ecosystem.

Moreover, in line with Indogreen Expo 2023’s theme, “Make a Success of Indonesia’s Forest and Other Land Use (FOLU) Net Sink 2030 through Forestry and Industry Sector Synergy”, the MIND ID Group also support climate change program through energy transition, which is one way of reducing carbon emission.

MIND ID’s President Director, Hendi Prio Santoso, is encouraging all members of the MIND ID Group to start moving and initiating energy transition in each operation. MIND ID has at least three decarbonization pillars, namely avoid, reduce, and mitigate.

“Through the decarbonization sustainability and strategy program, MIND ID and all of its Members, are committed to achieve the purpose which have been set together. This has made the MIND ID Group, as the State-Owned Enterprise Mining Industry Holding in Indonesia, the pioneer of decarbonization program in Indonesia,” said Hendi.

“MIND ID’s efforts to make a success of the program to reduce carbon figures, are by dividing it into three decarbonization pillars, namely Avoid, Reduce, and Mitigate,” added Hendi.

MIND ID, through one of its members PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA), has consistently set forth the importance of making the energy transition program a success. This initiation is being implemented with the many solar power installation (PLTS) by PTBA. This is not only as one of the renewable energy source with low emission for electricity needs in operations, but also to assist the power needs of the local people.

As an example, the power needs for irrigation pumps of ricefields capable of making food resilience a reality at Tanjung Raja vilage in Muara Enim. So far, the water needs for ricefields only relied on rain water, allowing harvest only once a year.  But with the submersible pump assistance, the village can harvest three times each year, and energy needs moving the pump comes from the PLTS built by PTBA.

Aside from PTBA, PT Freeport was also present at the Indogreen Expo bringing a message of commitment for reclamation, particularly in the Grassberg mining area.  The reclamation of overburdens has been made with five meters of limestone enclosing the overburden to prevent the occurrence of acid mine water.

Deschampsia klossii grass has been planted at the start of the reclamation program, to form a grass area enriched with shrubs and local species of herbs in line with the  alpine ecosystem character. Up to the end of 2022, the total area planted reached 472 hectares.

The MIND ID Group managed to receive 24 PROPER awards, consisting of four Gold PROPER, 8 Green PROPER and 12 Blue PROPER at the KLHK PROPER 2022 event.
