MIND ID and ANTAM Presented Reclamation and Sustainable Mining Commitment at INDOGREEN Expo 2023

Jogjakarta, 03 March 2023 - The Ministry of the Environment and Forestry (KLHK) has consistently held the Indonesia Green (Indogreen) Forestry Environment Expo. This year, the event is being held from 2 to 5 March 2023 at the Jogja Expo Center (JEC) with the campaign to make a success of climate change control efforts.

MIND ID and its Members, PT Antam Tbk, PT Bukit Asam Tbk, PT Freeport Indonesia, PT Inalum (Persero), PT Timah Tbk, took part in the Indogreen Expo 2023 with the theme “Make a Success of Indonesia’s Forest and Other Land Use (FOLU) Net Sink 2030 through Forestry and Industry Sector Synergy”.

This theme has been adopted as a form of manifestation of the spirit and optimism of KLHK, who invited all industries to be able to contribute and accelerate the implementation to control climate change in Indonesia.

The MIND ID Group, as the Holding State-Owned Enterprise for the Mining Industry in Indonesia, is driving its members to continue the mining practice which puts sustainability at the forefront.  Not only sustainability from the business side, but also efforts to protect the biodiversity and ecosystem in the surrounding areas of the mines.

MIND ID's President Director, Hendi Prio Santoso, expresses his high appreciation to KLHK for initiating this Expo, which has become not only an educational event for the public, but also to raise the commitment of Industries to conduct responsible practice.

"MIND ID continues its commitment to conduct mining practice according to the principals of good mining practice.  This is a form of responsibility on the part of the Company to present sustainable business," said Hendi.

The commitment is in line with the efforts to manage sustainable environment by PT Antam Tbk. Antam has conducted environmental management in the areas around its operational sites and supports the initiative of the Government in achieving Net Zero Emission 2060 through various initiatives of the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) programs.

Antam has planted an accumulation of 4.99 million trees in 4,541 hectares in the post mining area, river basin area, and coastal areas, at least for the past 10 years.

"Reclamation of the mining areas is the effort of the Company to follow the regulations of the Government. The land being mined was forest area, this should revert back as it was before, protect the sustainability and ecosystem.  It was a forest, we will revert it back into a forest," said Antam Secretary Syarief Faisal Alkadrie.

This program, implemented January - October 2022, was able to reduce 57,762 kilo tons of CO2 equivalent to 2.82% of greenhouse gas effect, last year.

Not only greening, Antam was also able to continue programs together with Masyarakat Berdaya, the impact of Antam's presence was able to boost welfare for people living in the surrounding areas of operations, which is in line with creating business in a sustainable manner. Among others, through the Integrated Coconut Development program In the North Maluku area.

Aside from North Maluku, Antam also has a program called Mandiri Manak Kan Alam (Mamalam) in West Kalimantan, Provision of Smart Waste Bank (Bank Sampah Pintar) at UBPP Logam Mulia, and Pepeling Cisangku at UBP Emas.

As information, through the commitment of ANTAM towards the principle of good mining practice, at the PROPER 2022 held by the Ministry of the Environment and Forestry, ANTAM managed to receive 5 PROPER recognitions, consisting of 3 Green PROPER, and 2 Blue PROPER.

At the Indogreen Expo 2023, ANTAM not only brought the silver craft makers under its guidance, but also gave out one hundred dondong, orange, and avocado seedlings to the people of Yogyakarta.
