MIND ID becomes Member of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC)

Jakarta, 25 July 2022 - MIND ID or Mining Industry Indonesia, the Holding State-Owned Enterprise for the Mining Industry, with members PT Aneka Tambang Tbk, PT Bukit Asam Tbk, PT Freeport Indonesia, PT Inalum (Persero) dan PT Timah Tbk, has become one of the members of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) on 18 July 2022. Membership of the UNGC is an indication of the commitment and seriousness of MIND ID at the global level on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2030.

UNGC was launched in 2000, at that time focusing on supporting the achievement of the Millenium Development Goals (MDGs). After the MDGs ended in 2015, UNGC supported the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in 2030.

MIND ID Director of Institutional Relations, Dany Amrul Ichdan, said that “By incorporating the ten principles of UNGC into the strategies, policies and procedures of the Company, MIND ID not only upholds the basic responsibilities towards humans and the planet, but also prepares the Company for the long term success and a brighter future.”

The status of MIND ID’s UNGC membership is based on a Letter of Commitment sent by MIND ID to the United Nation’s Secretary General on 28 June 2022, containing MIND ID’s commitment to support the 10 principles of the UNGC.

The ten principles of UNGC consist of the Principles on Human Rights, Labour, Environment and Anti-Corruption which constitute the manifestation of The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, The International Labour Organization’s Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, The Rio Declaration on Environment and Development, dan The United Nations Convention Against Corruption.

“By becoming a member of UNGC, MIND ID is on equal footing with other leading global mining companies, which is in accordance with MIND ID’s long-term plan to become a World Class Company with sustainability commitment,” said Dany.

MIND ID is continuously committed to ensure efficient mining management and minimize the impact to the environment, in line with good mining practices.

As a commitment to the company’s environment, social and governance aspects, MIND ID encourages MIND ID Members to undertake operations activities based on prevailing regulations and adopt international standards related to sustainable mining management.  To raise the performance of the Environment, Social, and Governance Sustainability, and support the achievement of the SDGs, MIND ID has a Sustainable Framework based on ISO 26000 as Sustainability Guidelines, International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM) Mining Principles as Sustainable Performance Standard and Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) together with SDGs, as information disclosure structure to stakeholders.
